A new website mocking the worst-dressed customers of Walmarts across America has quickly turned into a viral sensation.

People of Walmart was launched last month by three friends after an “inspirational trip” to one of the chain’s South Carolina stores, according to the site.

“Let’s face it; we all have seen the people who obviously don’t have mirrors and/or family and friends to lock them in a basement, and they all seem to congregate at Walmart. It’s not everywhere that you can shop for milk at 10 a.m. next to a 400lb mother of 6 wearing a pink tube top… Where else can one go to pick up underwear at 3 O’clock in the afternoon and spot the greatest mullet of all time paired with a mustard stained wife beater.”

The photo blog allows visitors to upload their own pictures, providing a bizarre and entertaining collection of shoppers sporting bad hairdos, ill-fitting clothing and even costumes.

But in the past week, People of Walmart has had a difficult time keeping up with the traffic.

After being featured in stories on websites including Time , Gawker and Funny or Die , the site has been intermittently down, and the owners have admitted the hosting company’s server wasn’t big enough.

People of Walmart used its Facebook and Twitter accounts Monday to announce that the site is upgrading to a new server because of the “hundreds of thousands of hits per day.”

The owners have also made a call for someone to create an iPhone app.
