What possesses a man to kidnap an 11 year old girl and hold her as a sex slave in a makeshift shed for nearly two decades? Well, tonight, alleged kidnapper, Phillip Garrido granted a news interview by phone. In it, he refers to the case as a ‘powerful, heartwarming story.’
As the Jaycee Lee Dugard case continues to unfold, we will undoubtedly learn more about what makes Phillip Garrido and his wife, Nancy Garrido tick. The evidence is already overwhelming, but none will be as damning as the DNA testing of two children. If parentage lines confirm that 58 year old Phillip Garrido fathered children with Jaycee Dugard when she was 14 years old, the states’ case will be sealed. But what about Phillip Garrido and his strange beliefs?
Neighbors state that Garrido was extremely religious, but many called him eccentric. According to a report by Mercury News, Phillip Garrido would burst into opera, his voice booming throughout the Antioch, California neighborhood. Not only was Phillip Garrido a sexual offender, he was a felon. He had served time in Leavenworth for kidnapping.
He obatined parole in 1988, but ended back in prison between the months of April and August 1993. During tonight’s interview, Phillip Garrido was asked if he was doing ok. Here is a link to the original interview with KCRA.
The interviewer thanked Phillip Garrido for doing the interview. Phillip began to ramble about documents that were placed wtih the FBI. In referring to the kidnapping, he stated, “Yes, I’m doing fine. In the end, this is going to be a powerful heartwarming story, one in which you’re going to be really impressed, it’s going to take world news.”
Garrido used the words, “Powerful, Heartwarming Story” repeatedly throughout his interview.
Though he sounded delusional, especially in regards to the documents that he had placed with the FBI in San Francisco, California, Garrido repeatedly stated that he could not get into the details of the kidnapping. He even said that he had not spoken with his lawyer yet, therefore he couldn’t make any comments. It was apparent that the interviewer continually tried to get Garrido to speak about the kidnapping and reveal specific details. Garrido wouldn’t bite. However, he did admit that he had fathered the children with Jaycee.
