Catherine Zeta Jones, ABC News and other outlets have reported, Zeta-Jones’s publicist issued a statement today confirming that the Oscar-winning actress and wife of Michael Douglas briefly checked in to a mental hospital.
Bipolar II is a form of manic depression that lacks the full-blown manic episodes found in those with Bipolar I, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.
“After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II Disorder,” the statement said. “She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films.”
Zeta-Jones’s upcoming film projects include “Playing the Field,” a rom-com that also stars Gerard Butler, and Stephen Frears’s “Lay the Favorite,” opposite Bruce Willis and Justin Timberlake.
