Woman Falls Into Fountain: Cathy Cruz Marrero was texting on her phone while walking in the Berkshire Mall in Reading, Pennsylvania when she suddenly collapsed headfirst into a water fountain. The scene was caught by the mall’s surveillance video system and then posted on YouTube, where it has been viewed nearly 2 million times.
While she wasn’t hurt physically, Cruz Marrero, who works in the mall, has hired an attorney. What hurts, she says, is “the humiliation (from the video having been put online). The humiliation. Ask my husband – I cried for days. … You don’t know how many people are laughing at me.”
Cruz adds that texting while walking is “dangerous. … I could have been walking into a bus, a car, a ditch, anything. Texting and walking, take it from me, is dangerous. It really is.”
