Walmart bought Vudu back in early 2010, and an eye towards reaping income from Vudu services integrated with set-top boxes, Blu-ray players, and HDTVs sold through the company’s massive retail efforts.
Now, the company is making Vudu’s library of movies and other video content available for online streaming, with rentals starting as low as 99 cents—although that scales up to as much as $5.99. Purchase prices for movies start at $4.99.

Walmart is not offering a subscription service, a la NetFlix, that provides customers with all-they-can-eat streaming for a fixed price. Instead, Walmart’s online video offerings take an approach like Apple’s iTunes store, where customers pay for content on an item-by-item basis.

As part of the launch, customers will be able to vote on Facebook for a new release title that will be available for customers to rent for just 99 cents: folks just need to log into Facebook and “like” the title they want to see get the discount treatment.

Vudu is available in the U.S. only, and users need to be 13 years old or more to set up an account.

She also answered a question about legalizing marijuana by saying she didn’t think it should be fully legalized as a solution to help ailing economies.

“Well, I understand why that question would be asked, especially with today’s economy, but I also understand that medical marijuana is very important to help those who need it medically,” she said during the pageant.

“I’m not sure if it should be legalized, if it would really affect, with the drug war,” she said. “I mean, it’s abused today, unfortunately, so that’s the only reason why I would kind of be a little bit against it, but medically it’s OK.”

Marijuana has been legal for medical use in California for about 15 years.

Miss Tennessee Ashley Durham was the first runner-up, while contestants from Alabama and Texas placed third and fourth.

Jillian Michaels has signed a multiyear deal that will see “The Biggest Loser” trainer join “The Doctors” as a co-host next season.

Michaels, who has made numerous guest appearances on The Doctors, says she’s delighted to get a permanent position. “I could not be more excited about joining such an amazing show,” she said in a statement. “My greatest passion is helping people live their healthiest, happiest lives by empowering them with information and support.”

Michaels will focus on wellness, prevention and lifestyle dynamics in addition to other health-related issues, producers said.

Michaels announced in December that she’d be leaving “The Biggest Loser” at the end of Season 11 to take a year off and focus on becoming a mom and doing more charity work.

Angelina Jolie revealed a new tattoo

The new ink is an addition to her arm tattoo which depicts map coordinates to the birthplaces of her six children, which led some to believe that there might be another adoption in the works. In February, Jolie’s rep denied rumors that the actress plans to adopt another child any time soon.

The new coordinates begin with the latitude N 35°10’44″ and though the longitude is obscured, it appears to begin with a W instead of an E, which would mean the location was in the United States.

Pitt was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, whose coordinates are N 35°20’33″ W 96°56’34,” so it’s possible that the tattoo honors his birthplace.

Jolie is currently working on her big-screen directorial debut – a movie she has written about a Serbian man and Bosnian woman who fall in love at the time of the Bosnian war in the 1990s. She is also attached to a “Cleopatra” movie reboot.

The Hallmark Channel resuscitates the ’80s/’90s comedy — about a doctor whose two grown daughters move home — with a Feb. 26 marathon. Starring Richard Mulligan (R.I.P.), Dinah Manoff and Kristy McNichol, the show is perhaps best known for McNichol’s sudden departure during the 1992. What happened to former teen star Kristy McNichol?

Kristy McNichol was one of the first stars to successfully navigate the path from teen star to adult actress. She gained fame with her role of Buddy on the 70s show Family and went on to have a string of films successes including Little Darlings, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, and Only When I Laugh.   She received a mid-career bump when she joined the cast of Empty Nest and then abruptly disappeared in 1992.    Here decision to leave the show was largely unexplained at the time.    Later she revealed that her behavior had turned erratic and she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.   Now she keeps her feet wet in Hollywood by helping train the next generation of actors by teaching at a private school in Los Angeles.

Hours after experiencing an unsettling on-air inability to speak while covering the Grammys last night, Serene Branson is said to be feeling fine. “Serene Branson was examined by paramedics on scene immediately after her broadcast,” Branson’s station, KCBS, said in a statement. “Her vital signs were normal. She was not hospitalized. As a precautionary measure, a colleague gave her a ride home and she says that she is feeling fine this morning.”

Dr. Krakauer, who is not involved in Branson’s care, said that Branson might have suffered a transient ischemic attack (TIA), a sort of “mini-stroke” that causes only transient problems. Some patients who are seen at a hospital for a TIA are allowed to go home without being admitted, he said.

He said it was also possible that Branson had suffered a seizure or experienced a rare condition associated with migraine headaches.

But whatever happened to Branson, Dr. Krakauer said her problem should serve as a reminder that stroke can happen even to young people. In fact, he said, each year in the U.S. about 50,000 people under the age of 50 have a stroke.

In addition to sudden problems thinking of or saying words, symptoms of stroke include a drooping face, the loss of vision in one eye, or the loss of movement or sensation on one side of the body.
